Today we are talking about being an emotional martyr & learning how to receive instead. A martyr is someone who chooses to sacrifice their life or face pain and suffering instead of giving up something they hold sacred. The term is sometimes used to describe someone who seems to always be suffering in one way or another. They always have a story about the latest sacrifice they’ve made for someone else. They may also even exaggerate bad things that happen to get sympathy or make others feel guilty. It’s the trap of, “I always show up for others, but no one does the same for me.” If you’re an emotional martyr and you don’t know how to receive, then the accountability remains on you. Making others feel badly for not doing or being enough is a shortcoming of your shadow self. The real challenge is not knowing how to receive because being a giver can feel more honorable. It’s time to shine a light on that shadow and learn how to receive instead.
