Today’s class will address avoiding the void. Avoidance is a coping mechanism, but it is not sustainable. Avoidance happens when you change your behavior to avoid thinking about, feeling, or doing difficult things. Avoidance creates more anxiety. Avoidance creates conflict in relationships. The first step to overcoming avoidance is to learn to recognize it (at the time you’re doing it). To heal unresolved emotional trauma, we have to face it and no longer avoid it.
